and Belonging

  • No planning, no prep… do it tomorrow

  1. Just Like Meditation Lesson 11.5: Have a discussion about our “sameness”, play the recored guided meditation below, or use the Just Like Me concept into a classroom discussion.

  2. Write a Kind Letter: Create penpals with another student in the other cohort sharing a kind wish or a reflection of gratitude to create a sense of connection.

  3. I Notice Practice: Instead of The Power of a Smile Practice Lesson 16.9, replace with “I notice 5 things”; taking the time throughout the day to be present and notice something about their assigned student, encouraging them to take time to notice (i.e. in the morning, lunch, at recess and in the afternoon, specially naming so the students will remember). Then invite the students to write down 5 things they noticed throughout the day and everyone else can try to guess who they were assigned.

  4. 5 Fun Facts about ME: Invite students to reflect on 5 fun facts about themselves and then have them partner up and share. Any similarities or overlaps? Turn it into art with a Venn Diagram with their partner.

  5. Puzzle Pieces Art Project: Lesson 16.7

  6. Read Let’s Talk About Race: Lesson 16.6 followed by the discussion of Lesson 16.3 When You Look at Someone Else, What Do You See?

  7. Gratitude Meditation with Art: Use the prerecorded guided Gratitude Meditation below and complete Lesson 11.6 Community Connection Art Project. The discussion and reflection of community can also be used as a morning discussion.

  8. Use the Take Five Video Lessons: Link Here
